Birdguards, Cowls and Chimney pots

If you want to stop birds or rain going down your chimney, Topstak offers a wide choice of cowls and terminals that are easily fitted onto the top of chimneys or chimney pots.

We supply other types of terminals and also chimney pots, so if you are looking for something different or not shown, please contact us directly to discuss your requirements.

A few words on selecting products - There are specific Building Regulations and Safety requirements that apply to adding birdguards, terminals and anti down draught type cowls onto flues and chimneys above certain types of heating appliances, particularly those burning gas. It is therefore very important to check that the correct product is used.

If you are looking for a terminal to stop downdraught or the problem of a smoky fireplace it is worth getting expert advice or contacting us to check if there are other factors that are causing the problem. Factors that can cause these problems include lack of ventilation into the room, a fireplace opening that’s too big for the flue or lack of chimney height.

Care should also be taken not to fit a terminal that is only designed to provide “trickle” ventilation in an unused chimney, where the fireplace has been closed off.

Clay chimney pots and Terminals

There is an almost limitless choice of clay chimney post that we offer from the Red Bank range and the following are just a few examples.

Traditional pots, Cannon head and roll top styles.

 Square pots.

 Ornamental and special pots.

 Inserts for gas appliances.

Inserts for ventilating disused chimneys

These are some examples of the insert terminals that are available for ventilating disused chimney pots.

They are designed to be inserted into the top of a chimney pot and must not be used with any live chimney.

The insert on the top is often called the Hood or bonnet top, and is frequently incorrectly mistaken as a terminal that can be used with a live flue.
